News
Our Thanksgiving feast this
year was wonderful! Thank you to all the families who donated food and joined
us in tasting the wonderful things the children made. I know the children
enjoyed hosting the event in the classroom. Miss Rose, Miss Sonia and I hope
that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

Other than
preparing for the feast, our classroom studied North America. The
children enjoyed learning about the animals and countries of the
continent. In December, we will be studying South America, its
countries, animals and flags. We will also be discussing parts of
an armadillo, which is indigenous to South America.
The science area is filled
with new and exciting work! Along with parts of the armadillo, we are looking
at the parts of a fish. We have also been discussing vertebrates and
invertebrates, and the differences between them. The children were given a
lesson last Friday afternoon about solids, liquids, and gases. We used water to
demonstrate each form of matter and discussed the differences between each form.

THANKSGIVING FEAST:
Our 14th annual Thanksgiving feast will be held on Tuesday, November
20th at 10:00 am. The children will be busy all month preparing a traditional
feast complete with turkey, stuffing, cranberries and much more! Please mark
this date and time on your calendar and plan to join us. A sign-up sheet for
ingredients will be posted outside our door. If you would like to bring an
ingredient, please bring it to us as soon as possible. We will begin cooking and
baking this week.
GEOGRAPHY:
We will study the continent of North America this month. The children will learn
a bit of information about its countries, make flags, and learn about the first
Thanksgiving. If anyone would like to share information, pictures, recipes or
experiences, please let us know.
SCIENCE:
This month we will learn about vertebrate and non-vertebrate animals and the
difference between plants and animals. You will see “parts of the fish” books
coming home in their Friday work.
CONFERENCES:
I appreciate the time all of you took to come and talk to us at conference time.
It was a great opportunity to get to know each of you a little better and to
share our experiences with your children.
GRANDPARENTS WEEK:
We all enjoyed the visits from grandparents last
year, and are looking forward to sharing some of our classroom with them again
this year. Grandparents will be invited to spend some time in the classroom
starting Nov. 5th –9th. You should have gotten an
invitation with 30 min. time slots that will fit nicely into our day. Please
fill out the times that your child’s grandparents would like to come and return
it to us. If the times listed are not convenient, please let us know and we will
certainly try to accommodate you. If a grandparent is not available, a “special”
person is welcome to come.
Thanks,
Miss Rose

October News
It’s hard to believe that the
first month of school is over! The classroom has been alive with activity of
our returning students. The children are having a chance to get to know one
another, forming close friendships and exploring some of the new work that we
have prepared for the classroom.

In the last few
weeks we have been talking about many different subjects. The
children have been very interested in learning about the different
planets in the Solar System, and how long it takes each planet to
revolve around the sun. We have also been studying the parts of an
apple. The children had a chance to taste a variety of different
apples, discussing which were sour and which were sweet.

I have very exciting news. The
third year students will be going on a field trip Wednesday, October 17th. They
will be traveling on a bus to the Leslie Science Center, where they will be
participating in an outdoor learning activity. I will be putting permission
slips that have details of the trip in your mailboxes so please keep an eye out
for them.
Conferences are coming up at the
end of the month, October 25th and 26th. Please look for a sign up sheet
outside the door in the coming week. Thursday, October 25th is a half day,
dismissal is at 11:45am, and special daycare is available. Friday, October 26th
there is no school, but special daycare is also available this day as well.
Wednesday, October 31st will be our Halloween celebration. Children are able to
wear a custom to school, but if your child stays all day, please provide a
change of clothes for the afternoon.
