Infant and Toddler

Toddler (18 months to 36 months)
The Toddler program provides a caring and nurturing environment that fosters each child's development of basic trust. The program is designed to meet the needs of each child, while emphasizing movement, play, manipulation, exploration, socialization, and autonomy. Children are given a free choice of activities and are permitted to proceed at their own pace. Children learn according to their own individual capabilities and enjoy a sense of freedom and spontaneity within a secure framework of daily routines. Activities that enrich the curriculum include sensory materials, use of crawling/climbing structures, music, art, language, dramatic play, stories, and outdoor experiences.

The Toddler curriculum is well-rounded and includes:

  • Language—enrichment and extension

  • Socialization—beginnings of social membership

  • Movement exploration—large and refined motor skills

  • Practical life—including care of person and bathroom independence

  • Functional independence—completion of work cycles

  • Grace and courtesy—living in community with others

Language development is an important area of growth for toddlers who change daily in their ability to express themselves and comprehend what they hear. Much of the work of the classroom enhances this emerging skill through daily living, language cards and realistic objects, songs and stories. Every day is exciting and new to a toddler at Go Like the Wind.

This classroom is designed to be a transition into our Montessori Preprimary classrooms.  Your child will learn to make many simple choices, and will begin to develop and reinforce "self-help" skills which will include toilet training. Children will be introduced to beginning Montessori materials and education activities.

The classroom has a teacher to student ratio that will not exceed 4 children per teacher.

Upon completion of toilet training, these children are eligible to join our Preprimary Montessori classrooms.
