Upper Elementary Faculty
Colette Toquigne
I am Colette Toquigne and I work as a teacher in the Upper Elementary classroom. This is my seventh year at the school. What I really love best about being at GLTW is that it is a Christian school where I can be open about my faith and use it to teach and impact a child’s learning in a positive way. My hometown is Pontiac, Michigan and I graduated from Oakland University with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources. I spent ten years working in Human Resources and Recruiting before pursuing my passion of teaching. I have my Montessori certification for both Lower and Upper Elementary.
My husband and I have a son and a daughter. We also have a dog named Zeena and a cat named Lily. I really enjoy reading children’s literature, along with yoga, swimming, traveling and being with friends.
This is a picture of my daughter and me at the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Kathy Marek
I’m Kathy Marek and I am an Upper Elementary teacher. I have been with GLTW since 2004 and prior to that, I was a Lower Elementary teacher at another Montessori school. My favorite parts about being at GLTW are the supportive staff, understanding boss, warm comfortable atmosphere, and the freedom to try new ideas.
I received my bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and I have my Montessori certification for both Lower and Upper Elementary.
When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children. Our other family members are Merlin and Twister, our 2 cats, and a ring-necked dove named Mozart. I love to read, do yoga, garden, paint, draw, and decorate. Here’s something you wouldn’t guess about me; I am a game play-tester and some of those games I have tested are now on the market.
