Music Program

Music is a requirement for every student at Go Like the Wind. From weekly singing and movement in the infant, toddler, and primary levels, to music creation, theory, and vocal performance in lower elementary. At the upper elementary and middle school level, we have instrumental performance groups. Students are encouraged to work together to create, discover, and explore all aspects of excellent musicianship.

In addition to much of the standard music pedagogy, students are also encouraged to create their own music. Starting in first grade, students compose music as a group. They then have an opportunity to record their original material in our in-house sound lab. By the time your student reaches middle school, they are not only creating original music on their own using multiple technologies, but they are also engineering and producing a yearly CD that is released to the public.

Concerts at Go Like the Wind are productions that are completely run by our students who perform as singers and instrumentalists. Students also take charge of all of the work that goes on behind the scenes such as: sound, lights, stage set-up, advertising, program creation, and stage management. This encourages a sense of pride, a strong work ethic, and a unique appreciation for all the aspects of making and performing music.

Through singing in the lower elementary and band in the upper elementary and middle school, students build their music performance skills. Learning all aspects from reading music, stage presence, tuning, working as a team, and traveling as a band are part of their musicianship. Concerts are held throughout the year for the students to share their progress. Students have written some of their own songs and a school CD is produced each year and offered for sale to support growth of the music program.

“The satisfaction which they find in their work has given them a grace and ease like that which comes from music.” – Maria Montessori
